FAQs
What is the typical ROI?
Outdoorlink offers solutions for a variety of different structure types and applications. The ROI depends on the application of our technology as well as the solution and setup currently in place. A typical ROI is between 9 and 13 months. All Outdoorlink clients perceive different results.
An example ROI from Lamar Dallas, TX who experienced a 10-month ROI after saving an average of $190,802 annually on their utility bill by using the Outdoorlink 4-Series for lighting control. Clients replacing photocells with an Outdoorlink Smart Controller can see faster ROIs due to average utility savings over 50% while replacing a time clock can yield savings of 25% – 50%.
A full ROI of the 2-year upfront cost for 30 SL-2-DC controllers with a 2-year service plan is anticipated within the first 10 months, with a projected 60% reduction in operational costs.
How many Outdoorlink Controllers do I need?
The number of controllers you need depends on the number and type of devices you want to manage. In general terms, clients install one controller per structure or player.
- The 2-Series Controller manages up to 2 DC devices. It is ideal for street furniture and solar applications.
- The 4-Series Controller manages up to 4 AC devices. It is most used on large-format static and digital structures
- The Vantage Controller manages power to two DC devices and can monitor and control a single indoor digital display and its components.
What is the difference between Proof of Display and Proof of Performance?
- Proof of Play, is a metric provided by content management systems (CMS), confirming the number of times a specific creative or ad is sent from the CMS program to the screen.
- Proof of Display, offered by the Vantage Controller, utilizes a patented optical sensor to verify that content is displaying correctly on digital screens. This metric takes measurement a step further than Proof of Play, confirming there are no hardware or screen issues that prevent ads from being properly displayed.
- Proof of Performance Outdoorlink reporting, available across all Outdoorlink controllers (including 2-Series, 4-Series, and Vantage), provides data on proper illumination and functionality as well as controller daily activity. This includes power readings, command logs, alarm history, and maintenance logs.
What data do you have that I can use to say I am sustainable?
Outdoorlink provides several data points and features that support sustainability claims:
- Reduced Energy Consumption: Smart Controllers, by replacing traditional timers and photocells, can lead to energy savings of over 50%. They use GPS coordinates for precise sunrise/sunset scheduling and automatically turn off unnecessary displays when they do not have active campaigns. You can track power consumption by face, device, site, division, or company through reports in the Outdoorlink Portal.
- Minimized Carbon Footprint: By reducing energy consumption, you inherently lower your carbon footprint. Remote monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities minimize the need for site service visits, reducing fuel consumption and associated emissions as does the ability to eliminate nightly illumination verification inspections.
- Waste Reduction: Precise control over power cycles extends the lifespan of bulbs and other components, reducing the need for replacements and minimizing electronic waste.
- Transparency: The Vantage Controller’s proof-of-display offers verifiable data on digital ad play, potentially reducing the need for resource-intensive manual checks. The Outdoorlink Portal provides data transparency on energy consumption, allowing for informed decision-making and continuous improvement in sustainability practices. The portal also offers Energy Consumption Reports and can calculate carbon footprints.
- Savings Opportunity Report: The portal can identify underperforming sites with inefficient schedules or high energy consumption and recommend potential savings in energy, cost, and emissions.
How hard are Outdoorlink Controllers to install?
The installation of Outdoorlink controllers is simple and straightforward. Through the use of detailed installation instructions and videos, clients can confidently and swiftly install them in the field. The installation process is designed to be manageable and pain-free. It is obviously important to follow all applicable electrical codes and local regulations.
- For the 4-Series and 2-Series Controller, an electrition will mount the unit and connect the relay wires directly to the targeted loads, following provided wiring diagrams.
- The installation of the Vantage Controller, is quick and simple. The controller should be installed within 3 ft. of the sensor and the sensor placed on any of the four corners of the display.
How long does training take?
Initial installation clarification and Portal training take less than an hour to complete. Once clients have received their initial training, clients can easily install and add additional controllers to their portal, as well as add new users, and divisions and troubleshoot issues on their own. Outdoorlink offers 24/7 technical support in case clients need any assistance.
